Carl Auböck

Chess set

Patrick Parrish has taken a leading role in the documentation of work by Carl Auböck II, the Viennese modernist designer and craftsman. Working across a broad material palette, Auböck concentrated his formidable energies on small-scale domestic objects, all functional but with extraordinary sculptural presence. Recognized with four Compasso d’Oro awards at the Milan Triennale in the 1950s, he collaborated with his son and namesake Carl Auböck III, with the workshop eventually producing over 4500 unique forms.
