◄ Overview
Phyllida Barlow
pompom2014-3
At this point, Phyllida Barlow’s stature in the world of contemporary British sculpture is more or less supreme. Her sprawling installations combine monumental scale with extraordinary sensitivity of touch and nuance. With such a powerful artist, much is compressed even in a modestly scaled work – as is the case with this Pom Pom, simply made from fabric and paper. It could almost be a piñata were it not for the color palette – instantly recognizable as Barlow’s – and the handling of the material, like that of a three-dimensional expressionist painting.
