Based in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Solange Pessoa stages condensed scenes of primordial creation, often using natural elements. In both her clay “drawings” and sculptures, she searches out forms that could be read as representational – of plants, stones, and eggs – but are perhaps better seen in relation to prehistoric artifacts, which registered their makers’ profound response to the environment that sustained them.
