It exemplifies his deft and humorous mixture of found and made elements – in this case, a black backpack which sits astride a lumpen blob of clay outfitted with a wood “horn.” Costa’s understated wit is often, as here, applied to personifications of his native country - its aspirations and absurdities alike.
